Mazda CX-70 2025 for 2025
Mazda CX-70 2025 and its year-old CX-90 sibling are both mid-size SUVs that follow a similar template to competitors such as the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Grand Cherokee L. The CX-70 is a two-row offering that seats five passengers, while the CX-90 has three rows and can seat up to eight.
It seems curious that Mazda decided to offer two separate nameplates, as the CX-70 is nearly identical to the CX-90 in size, simply lacking the third row of seats. (Notably, the Grand Cherokee L is longer overall with a longer wheelbase.) Additionally, both the CX-70 and CX-90 share the same inline-six and plug-in-hybrid powertrains, with the primary differences being in interior and exterior trim options and a rearranged cargo area. The CX-70 is just as luxurious and refined as its bigger sibling.
What’s New for 2025?
The CX-70 nameplate is new to the Mazda lineup for 2025, although the vehicle itself is essentially the same as the CX-90 introduced last year. The CX-70 features blacked-out exterior trim and a new wheel design for differentiation. Mazda is also adding features such as Amazon Alexa integration and an underfloor storage compartment in the cargo area.
Mazda CX-70 2025 for 2025: Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2025 Mazda CX-70 starts at $41,900 and goes up to $57,405 depending on the trim and options. Choosing between the standard or more powerful version of the CX-70’s inline-six depends on your budget, but the S’s extra 60 horsepower is worth the upgrade if you ask us. Regardless, we recommend the Premium trim, which adds 21-inch wheels, a hands-free power liftgate, a panoramic sunroof, a digital gauge display, a 12-speaker Bose stereo system, and a head-up display.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
All non-hybrid CX-70 models come with a turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine that makes 280 horsepower in base form and 340 horsepower in S trims. During our initial test drive, we found this powertrain to be powerful and smooth-running, although a bit loud under hard acceleration. The eight-speed automatic transmission can be sluggish and sometimes reluctant to respond to commands from the steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The CX-70’s handling is nimble and sure-footed, just like its counterpart, which makes sense given that they share a platform.
0–60 MPH Times
Because it has the same turbocharged 3.3-liter inline-six engine as the CX-90, we expect the CX-70 will offer similar performance. A CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus reached 60 mph in 6.3 seconds in our testing, and the CX-70 might be slightly quicker due to its slightly lighter weight. We have yet to test the less powerful 280-hp version of this engine in the CX-90, and we will review the CX-70 Hybrid separately.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
The EPA has not yet released fuel-economy ratings for the CX-70, but the CX-90’s ratings give us a good idea of what to expect. It is rated at 25 mpg combined. A plug-in-hybrid version promises far better fuel economy and a bit of all-electric range, so consider that model if you’re interested in a more economical CX-70. For more information about the CX-70’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.
Mazda CX-70 2025 for 2025: Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Mazda SUVs are known for their plush materials, upscale designs, and abundant features, and the CX-70 is no exception. Its interior resembles the CX-90’s, though it offers a red leather interior upholstery option and has only two rows of seats instead of three. The cargo area should provide the same amount of space as the CX-90 with its third row folded, although the CX-70 has a larger underfloor storage compartment.
Infotainment and Connectivity
A 12.3-inch infotainment system is standard and uses Mazda’s latest software. It’s not a touchscreen; instead, there’s a control knob and a few buttons on the center console that operate the central display. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are standard, and there’s a new option for Amazon Alexa integration. A 12.3-inch digital gauge display and a head-up display are both optional; Premium trims and above come with a 12-speaker Bose stereo system.
Mazda CX-70 2025 for 2025: Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
All CX-90 models come equipped with Mazda’s i-Activsense suite of driver-assistance features. This includes automated emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and more.
