Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024: A Comprehensive Overview

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024: Jeep is renowned for its expertise in SUVs, and while the brand is best known for off-road legends like the Wrangler, the 2024 Grand Cherokee appeals to a wider audience, earning a spot on our 2024 Editors’ Choice list. The Grand Cherokee is a two-row mid-size SUV—not to be confused with the three-row Grand Cherokee L—and, while it is designed for comfort on paved roads, it retains enough off-road capability to stay true to Jeep’s adventurous spirit.

Most models are powered by a V-6 engine, but a plug-in-hybrid variant called the Grand Cherokee 4xe is also available and reviewed separately. To enhance the Grand Cherokee’s appeal, Jeep offers a variety of trims starting from the basic Laredo to the luxurious Summit Reserve, capable of competing with rivals from BMW and Mercedes-Benz.

What’s New for 2024?

For 2024, the Grand Cherokee is mostly unchanged, with new 18-inch polished aluminum wheels on the Limited trim.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024: Pricing and Which One to Buy

The price of the 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee ranges from $39,830 to $68,835, depending on the trim and options. The Trailhawk model has adjustable air suspension for 11.3 inches of clearance and a disconnecting anti-roll bar for better articulation. The Laredo and Limited models have a six-speaker stereo, with upgrades available to a nine-speaker Alpine system or a 19-speaker McIntosh setup.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Grand Cherokee features a 293-hp, 3.6-liter V-6 engine and standard rear-wheel drive. Multiple all-wheel-drive systems are available, including an electronically locking limited-slip differential. The Trailhawk model, built for off-road use, includes adjustable air suspension for 11.3 inches of ground clearance and a disconnecting anti-roll bar for better wheel articulation. The quickest Grand Cherokee model is the 4xe, which reaches 60 mph in 5.3 seconds. A V-6-powered Summit model achieved 60 mph in 7.4 seconds. Overall, the Grand Cherokee delivers a smooth and refined ride, setting it apart in its class.

Towing and Payload Capacity

The 2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee tows up to 6200 pounds, exceeding the Ford Edge and Jeep Wrangler.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024: Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The V-6 Grand Cherokee achieves 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway with rear-wheel drive. Adding all-wheel drive reduces these estimates by 1 mpg. The plug-in-hybrid 4xe offers better fuel economy, rated at 23 mpg city and 24 mpg highway. For more information on the Grand Cherokee’s fuel economy, visit the EPA’s website.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The 2024 Grand Cherokee features a modernized interior, replacing the previous generation’s somewhat dated design. Base Laredo models offer essential features, while upscale Summit and Overland trims add luxuries like quilted leather upholstery, open-pore wood trim, and high-tech digital displays. The Grand Cherokee is strictly a two-row SUV, but those needing a third row can opt for the Grand Cherokee L. While we have yet to test the new Grand Cherokee, we expect it to offer more cargo space than the previous model.

Infotainment and Connectivity

Above the Grand Cherokee’s dashboard are 8.4-inch or 10.1-inch touchscreens with standard Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and SiriusXM. Optional features include in-dash navigation with real-time traffic and weather updates. Higher-end models offer a digital gauge cluster, a 10.0-inch head-up display, and a 10.3-inch display for the front passenger.

The Laredo and Limited models have a six-speaker stereo, upgradeable to a nine-speaker Alpine or a 19-speaker McIntosh system.

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2024: Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Jeep addresses the growing demand for advanced driver-assistance features by offering a comprehensive suite of standard safety technologies. For detailed information on the Grand Cherokee’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning and lane-keeping assist
  • Standard adaptive cruise control

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Despite the Grand Cherokee’s move towards the premium market, its standard warranty remains basic. While rivals like the Kia Telluride and Hyundai Santa Fe offer longer warranty terms, the Jeep’s warranty is comparable to most mainstream competitors such as the Chevrolet Blazer and Ford Edge.

  • Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
  • Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
  • Three years of complimentary scheduled maintenance included
