Hyundai Elantra N: 2024 Updates and Enhancements

After just three years, the Hyundai Elantra N sport compact receives an update, aligning its design with the more subdued sedan it’s based on. Hyundai has adjusted the car’s suspension system, but the 276-hp turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-four engine remains unchanged for 2024, keeping its straight-line performance intact.

We’re pleased with this decision. We adored the previous Elantra N so much that it secured first place in a comparison test against the Honda Civic Si and Volkswagen Jetta GLI. The 2024 model features a new 19-inch wheel design and updated front and rear bumper covers, along with revised headlamps and taillights, visually setting it apart from the 2023 model. This handsome update ensures the Elantra N retains its spot on our Editors’ Choice list this year.

Though not a generational overhaul, the refreshed Hyundai Elantra N brings several noteworthy changes. New front and rear bumpers are paired with stylish new headlights and taillights. The “H” logo on the hood is now black, and there are two new 19-inch wheel designs.

Inside, there are new seats, a revised steering wheel, and an updated shift knob. Hyundai has also made performance-oriented updates to the car’s software, alongside physical changes aimed at enhancing performance, such as a reinforced engine mount, new steering components, and updated rear-suspension bushings.

Hyundai Elantra N: Pricing and Which Model to Buy

The 2024 Hyundai Elantra N is priced between $34,850 and $36,350, depending on the trim and options selected.

The N trim comes fully loaded with both attitude and equipment. In addition to performance upgrades over the standard Elantra, it boasts numerous technology and safety features. Buyers can choose from several paint options and decide between a manual or automatic transmission. If we had to choose, we’d go with the manual for an engaging driving experience.

Hyundai Elantra N model: Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Hyundai Elantra N features a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine inherited from the Veloster N hatchback. While this engine produces 275 hp in the Veloster N, an overboost feature known as N Grin Shift increases the Elantra N’s output to 286 hp. This gives it a significant power advantage over the similarly priced Jetta GLI. An eight-speed automatic transmission is available, but a six-speed manual comes standard. During our testing,

the Elantra N with the eight-speed automatic sprinted to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 13.4 seconds at 106 mph. The Elantra N offers sharp throttle response, precise handling, and an impressive exhaust note. Its longer wheelbase provides a more compliant ride than the Veloster N while maintaining the agility expected of a sports sedan. The more time we spend with the Elantra N, the more it solidifies its position as a top contender in the sport compact segment.

Hyundai Elantra N model: Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG

The EPA rates the Elantra N at 21 mpg city and 29 mpg highway for models with a manual transmission, and 20 mpg city and 27 mpg highway for automatics. On our 75-mph highway fuel economy test route, the manual transmission Elantra N exceeded its EPA highway estimate, achieving 32 mpg, while the automatic model delivered an impressive 37 mpg. Hyundai Elantra N model: Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The standard Elantra’s dramatically-styled cabin perfectly translates to the sportier Elantra N. The cockpit-like ambiance is intensified with sport seats featuring aggressive bolsters, metal-accented pedals, and multiple N badges. Rear seat room surpasses that of the Veloster N, while the trunk offers ample cargo capacity. A sunroof is available, but only with the automatic transmission.

Infotainment and Connectivity

The Elantra N features an all-digital dashboard, carried over from the regular Elantra. It includes a large 10.3-inch digital gauge display alongside a 10.3-inch infotainment display, slightly angled towards the driver. Standard features are expected to include Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, in-dash navigation, and a Wi-Fi hotspot.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Elantra N comes equipped with a variety of standard driver-assistance technologies. For detailed crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features likely include:

  • Standard automated emergency braking with pedestrian detection
  • Standard lane-departure warning with lane-keeping assist

  • Limited warranty covers 5 years or 60,000 miles
