Introduction to the BMW Series 8 Gran Coupe
The BMW Series 8 made its debut in Vietnam relatively recently. In early 2022, Truong Hai (Thaco) discreetly imported about three units for customers, with the price at that time being around 6.789 billion VND.
In a significant move during the launch event of a new luxury car lineup at the end of April, Thaco officially announced its plan to distribute the top-tier BMW Series 8 Gran Coupe. The sole available model, the 4-door Gran Coupe, is priced at 6.899 billion VND.
BMW 8 Series Gran Coupe: Exterior Design and Features
Since its launch in 2018, the Series 8 has not undergone any mid-cycle upgrades, maintaining its sleek and bold design. A distinctive characteristic of the Series 8 Gran Coupe is its unique kidney-shaped grille, which illuminates during nighttime. The vehicle’s ground clearance is a mere 128 mm, emphasizing its sleek profile.
The Series 8 comes equipped with laser headlights as standard, offering an impressive range of 600 meters. These headlights include an adaptive feature that selectively activates light zones based on the front monitoring camera to avoid dazzling other vehicles.
The rear of the BMW Series 8 Gran Coupe features distinctive L-shaped LED taillights. The rear bumper features air vents designed to streamline airflow, improving vehicle stability at high speeds.
Suspension and Performance
The adaptive pneumatic suspension system in the BMW Series 8 is present on both the front and rear. This system enables adjustment of shock absorber stiffness across three settings: Comfort, Sport, and Sport Plus.
The vehicle features a 3-liter twin-scroll turbocharged inline-6 engine, producing 340 horsepower and 500 Nm of torque. It features an 8-speed Steptronic transmission and rear-wheel drive,
enabling the car to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.4 seconds, with a top speed of 250 km/h.
Interior and Cockpit
The cockpit of the Series 8 is reminiscent of the old Series 6 but incorporates modern updates and adjustments. The interior boasts luxurious leather upholstery across most surfaces, complemented by accents of aluminum, crystal, or wood trim.
The M Sport steering wheel features practical control buttons. Behind it, there’s a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The vehicle offers multiple driving modes: Sport, Comfort, Eco Pro, and Adaptive.
Infotainment and Technology
Compared to the version that arrived in early 2022, the Series 8 now features a larger entertainment screen, upgraded from 10.25 inches to 12.3 inches.
The vehicle’s interactive system runs on the BMW Operating System 7.0 (with higher models like the i7 and X7 LCI using Operating System 8.0), which allows wireless smartphone connectivity and control via voice and gestures. The virtual assistant responds to the command “Hey BMW.”
The gear lever and control knob are adorned with crystal accents.
